Tampa, FL — Barb Maxwell, RN, MHA, COHN-S, C WCP, QRP, FAAOHN was inducted into the Florida State Association of Occupational Health Nurses (FSAOHN) Society Fellow, the most distinguished award the association has to bestow on one its members. Maxwell is the Director of Company Care Occupational Health Services for HCA West Florida and was honored last week at the annual meeting in Orlando.
The award denotes significant and sustainable contributions to the discipline of nursing,the practice area of occupational health and political involvement for change in both. In her more than 36 years of nursing and 25 years in occupational health, Maxwell has served as a catalyst for change in loss prevention and worker health. She is a highly sought out expert in the leadership development, succession planning, clinical competency and education in occupational health and worker's compensation.
Occupational health nursing is the specialty practice that provides for and delivers health and safety programs to workers, worker populations and community groups. The practice focuses on promotion and restoration of health, prevention of illness and injury, and protection from work-related and environmental hazards.
