2016-HCAWF-Comm-Benefits-Report - page 2

As part of HCA, a leading national healthcare
provider, this past year we have expanded our
complex inpatient surgical services and tertiary
care throughout Tampa Bay and West Florida.
Our growing list of new clinical specialties include
Burn Services at Blake Medical Center, Soft Organ
Transplant and Hepatobiliary Services at Largo
Medical Center, Pediatric Surgery at Brandon
Regional Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care at
Medical Center of Trinity and several coordinated
outpatient Behavioral Health programs.
Our continued efforts in ER efficiency and
quality kept wait time metrics consistently below
state and national averages. Both Englewood
Community and Tampa Community Hospitals
expanded their Heart Attack treatment
capabilities with the addition of Interventional
Cardiology services (PCI). We continued to
expand access to services, with the opening of
the Citrus Park ER in June by Medical Center of
Trinity. Our 21st ER is now under construction in
Palm Harbor.
To attract the level of expertise needed to
support our specialty services and growth, we
brought 143 new physicians to our area from
across the country.
Furthermore, we continue to add Graduate
Medical Education programs to train physicians
locally. Program directors were recruited from
several prestigious organizations including the
Cleveland Clinic, Ohio State and the University
of Kentucky, and we achieved several academic
milestones including a program expansion
resulting from our innovative curriculum. Brandon
Regional Hospital’s internal medical residency
opened in June with more than 889 applications
received for the 20 resident slots available in the
program’s first year. Three new programs are
opening this year, including one at Blake Medical
Center in June, bringing our total to 23 programs
supporting 334 medical residents in 2016.
With an economic impact totaling more than
$2 billion in Tampa Bay
last year, we hope
that you will take the time to review the many
successes achieved in our commitment to
the health and economic wellbeing of the
communities we serve.
