HCA was founded in 1968 when Dr. Thomas Frist,
Sr. led a group of physicians to build a hospital in
Nashville. Today HCA is the nation’s leading provider
of quality healthcare services with locally managed
facilities that include 168 hospitals, 114 surgery
centers and 51 Freestanding ERs. In Florida, there
are 46 hospitals and 32 surgery centers.
Headquartered in Tampa, the HCA West Florida
Division includes 16 hospitals on 18 campuses, 20
ERs, 14 surgery centers, imaging centers, physician
practices, 20 Graduate Medical Education programs,
a supply chain center and an integrated regional
laboratory. Together the network employs more than
18,740 individuals with 3,944 physicians on staff,
all committed to keeping Tampa Bay healthy.
